Task – Remove existing tiles and tile bed to the terraces, balconies and common area. Waterproof and re-tile each area.

Special Challenge :
Water ingress had been a persistent problem. The main liquid membrane was 12 years old and had been leaking for years. The aluminium doors and windows were the wrong category and could not cope with rain and driving wind. Flashing was inadequate causing leaks through floors and walls. The fall on balconies was inadequate causing ponding. The flashing on the main slab was inadequate.
The site was steep and somewhat remote from the road with 8 stories from the road to the top.

Solution :
The demolition of the existing tiles and tile bed proved difficult as there was a lot of waste which had to be conveyed by rubbish chutes and belt conveyor to skip bins and thence to the tip.
Active Platforms erected the scaffolding.
Melrose Cranes provided 75 tonne crane and this was used principally for the tiles and waterproofing membrane and assistance with rubbish removal.
Andersal primed the new concrete surface and applied adhesive Wolfin S PVC.
The initial concrete pumping contractor underestimated the volume to be pumped and suffered a burst hose. Andersal staff effected an excellent recovery of the situation by removing many tonnes of unwanted concrete.
St. George Concreting were then contracted to pump the concrete from road level to about 8 stories up at the highest.
Care was taken to re-establish the reference levels so adequate run off and door hobs were always allowed.
Ezz Tiling were contracted to lay the imported Italian tiles selected by the client.
New custom aluminium doors and windows were measured, constructed and installed with correct flashing.
Clayton Landscaping rebuilt a wall and contributed to providing the high quality professional finish.
